This project consisted of the studies and works involved in protecting the water intakes of units 4 and 5 of the Bugey power plant against the risk of frazil ice. This protection system consists of hot water circulating close to the grids of the two units in the same way as a winter recirculation system.
Frazil ice consists of the formation of ice crystals in water that can accumulate, potentially icing up the pre-filtration grids in pumping stations.
BONNA Reinforced Concrete Cylinder Pipes (RCCPs) with SL welded joints were chosen for this project and tested at a pressure of 3 bar.
