Bonna pipes

Bonna pipes consist of a reinforced concrete pipe with a metal core. They are suitable for use either in pressurised networks (domestic water mains, penstocks, etc.) or in gravity-fed networks. The pipes and special fittings are defined based on the specific characteristics of the project and the laying methods used (normal operating pressure, maximum operating pressure, backfill depth, open-cut laying, jacking, etc.) with a wide range of diameters up to 4 metres. The parts are connected together by SL welded or ER elastomer joints.

Bonna pipes comply with the EN 639 and EN 641 standards. The reinforced concrete casing of Bonna pipes is highly resistant to external stresses. The range of Bonna pipe sizes available to fit the specific project ensures that networks are perfectly able to resist the positive and negative pressures occurring during their use, ensuring a long operating life.

Bonna pipes have been in use worldwide for over 100 years.

  • In drinking-water networks;
  • In sewage networks requiring a perfect seal (pipes, manholes, etc.);
  • In sea intakes or outfalls and, more generally, for lake, river and seawater use;
  • In industrial cooling piping.

The steel cylinder reinforced concrete pipe offers an optimum combination between the performances and specifications of concrete and steel.

Bonna pipes consist of:

(1) a very low-friction, cement-rich concrete inner wall that protects the metal core against corrosion through passivation as well as against abrasion. Unlike the thin coatings of other materials frequently used, our product is able to withstand negative pressures and vibrations;

(2) a internal cylinder formed of rolled-steel plates welded lengthwise or spirally to ensure a perfect seal and provide self-locking between pipes;

(3) steel reinforcement consisting of a steel wire spirally wound at a constant pitch around the steel core;

(4) an outer reinforced-concrete wall that protects the metal core indefinitely against aggressive external agents (soil, groundwater, etc.) and takes up the stresses caused by backfilling and external loads.

The long life of Bonna pipes with their steel core has been proven in more than a century of use. This is due to their composite Reinforced Concrete with steel Cylinder Pipe (RCCP) design.

The manufacturing process, with its controlled prefabrication conditions in our plants, ensures top-quality material performance (compactness, strength, compliance with tolerances, etc.) and contributes to the durability of conduits constructed using Bonna RCCP pipes.
